To create an album of story telling through song that brings to life the hopes and fears of being a Disabled Person/Artist under Austerity
I am a Disabled Artist, Singer Songwriter/guitarist I write and perfom my own unique brand of folk punk where-ever possible, although this presents its own problems as gaining access to perfrom as a wheelchair user is not always straight forward. The majority of my time is spent using my artistica and creative skills to work with other disabled and dis-enfranchised people in creative writing for empowerment workshops, but now, especially after the disastrous General Election result for Disabled People I feel complelled to get back to my roots and write and record an emotional response to what for many Disabled People are very scary times.
I would dearly love to now create a new contemporary album of songs that will take listeners through the ups and downs of life, the fear in the oppression, the freedom in self expression, the inspiration in determination
I would like enough money to buy in the best musicians I can afford as the recording band, to deliver a braodcast quality recording, and through music to make people more aware of the truth behind the lives of Disdabled People and the very real dangers and vulnerability that we face in todays society
If I am able to make this album a reality I will sell it through The Disability Arts Market Place, ( http://damarketplace.co.uk/the-song-bank )with all the money from any sales being ploughed back into a much bigger project called 'Permission To Speak - Permission To Perform', a project to offer artistic and creative perfromance opportunities and mentoring to would be, new and emerging Disabled Artists, from intial contact and workshops through to nationwide perfromance opportunities
