Bio-diversity Area

Weʼre raising £600 to help fund plants for our new school pond!

We did it
On 18th January 2018 we successfully raised £17 with 3 supporters in 56 days

We are the Friends of Blue School at St Columb Minor Academy, which helps raise funds for the school, organising events which bring the school, parents and the community closer together.

This year all monies raised through fundraising are helping us to achieve the dream of developing a ‘Bio-Diversity Area’ in our school grounds. This will include a pond, native hedgerows, reptile area, a variety of habitats, Amphitheatre as well as utilising other areas of the school for native or specialised planting. It will help the children with their learning about the world around them and promises to be an exciting venture into the world of the outside classroom.

Towards the end of August, a few very dedicated volunteers made a start in building the pond, pond dipping platform, wetland area and fencing to enclose this wonderful area; this has now been completed. Our mission now is to fill this fantastic area with a bird hide, trees, plants, habitats and flowers to encourage a wide range of wildlife for the children to enjoy and learn about.

Unfortunately, we have nearly exhausted our funds with the development of the pond and although we still continue to raise money through our school events we would like to fill the pond with plants before the Winter months arrive, this will encourage wildlife and create safe habitats and hiding spaces for all types of species ready for Spring.

We have had so much fun building this incredible bio-diversity area with the hope of expanding even further in the future. We cannot wait to see it come to life in the Spring and Summer months next year and to watch the children benefit from everything that nature has to offer.

We would really appreciate anything you can offer towards our exciting project.
