We work to improve the lives of young people excluded from School.
They learn lots of different skills to help them with their futures.
As a reward for their hard work we take them on regular Mountain Biking Adventures.
These trips also help them learn to lead healthy lifestyles - trips to the outdoors are great for the body and mind!
Bikespace was founded in 2010 and we have a minibus (now seventeen years old) which we bought second hand about five years ago. We love our minibus but it has got to the stage where we have a large bill at MOT time each year to keep it on the road. A new (or newer!) minibus would mean these big bills would be a thing of the past and we can continue offering adventures in the great outdoors as part of our programme.
We have had lots of success with the young people we have worked with since 2010. We have gone on to give several of them jobs - currently we have two ex pupils working for us, one full time as a bicycle mechanic and one on Saturdays to help him through College.
This quote from a pupil really sums up what we do:
"I like going to Bikespace because I am good at practical things. I find normal School subjects difficult to understand but I can take a bike apart and rebuild it so it is as good as new. I am in year 11 so when I finish School I would like to do public services at College so I can join the Army or to work at Bikespace." Brandon Johnson, Mount Tamar School
