My housekeeper for the past 2 and a bit years, Bezunesh, is a wonderful women who has had a host of truly awful incidents happen to her. Including the loss of her husband around the time of my arrival in Ethiopia. She has recently had the chance at a victory that will change her life and that of her children forever.
She's been given an opportunity to purchase a government-built home. It's a tiny 1 bedroom flat that will give her and her 3 children a place that is theirs; removing them from the tyranny of uncontrolled rent rises and potential eviction that is part of life for so many here in Addis. She has already saved money and raised support through another friend to get the initial deposit down to secure the flat, leaving her with manageable monthly payments.
She is now in the process of finalising the long, arduous process of paperwork, proving her husbands death, and jumping through various other moving hoops. This has been an exhausting process for her.
She was informing us that there is still much to be done in the flat, including putting in doors and finishing off the final touches, utilities and making it a home.
We would love to support her as best we can to make this shell of a house a home for her and her children.
100% of any money we raise from this event will go towards finishing the house.
Thank you for your help.
