As a young, disabled adult with a wildly fluctuating health condition, employment is difficult. Nowhere is flexible enough to accommodate for 'some days I can work 6 hours, some weeks I can't work any'. Which leaves self employment as the only real viable option. Until recently, I couldn't find any good, marketable skills. But then, I took part in a brief partner massage workshop and I realised; I really enjoy giving massage- and considering the very little training I've had; I'm not bad at it!
This works beautifully with an idea I've had for a while; I wanted to find a form of self employment which would benefit the trans community specifically. I thought about barbering, but turns out I'm rubbish at cutting hair. But so many trans and gender nonconforming people, and queer people in general, would benefit from massage. For chronic pain issues, for binder and posture related issues, for the relaxation... But it can be difficult to be comfortable with a state of semi undress around cis people who don't understand trans bodies and dysphoria.
I've found an NVQ level 3 in beauty therapy- massage that I'm enrolling onto next week which I should complete by September time! So the things I need to fundraise for are mostly equipment, supplies and space :)
Some things we'll need to get started:
- a good quality massage table
- some stones and a stone heater
- towels and linen, tunics
- some oils
- a queer friendly space to rent out :)
Anything you can donate will help, thank you :)
