On Tuesday 28th July, Jane, Andy and I will be testing our physical limits in order to raise money for three brilliant charities. The Challenge is simple - run 4 miles (or km for Jane) every 4 hours for 48 hours. This amounts to 52 miles (2 marathons) for Andy and I, and 52 km for Jane.
Ben's Charity - Olivia Inspires
I will be raising money for Olivia Inspires.
Olivia was a beautiful, intelligent, enthusiastic and much loved member of Durham University, Castle (my college) and DUSC, who tragically lost her life in 2018.
The charity was set up by her parents to assist children aged 11-18 years old within the New Forest District Council area who are facing financial hardship by providing grants of up to £500 to allow and aid them to develop their potential in STEM, the arts and sports. It enables Olivia's memory to live on.
Andy's Charity - Papyrus
Suicide is the single biggest killer of young people under the age of 35 in the UK. PAPYRUS is the national charity for the prevention of young suicide and believes that many young suicides are preventable. They operate HOPELINEUK, a confidential call, text, and email helpline for young people who experience suicidal thoughts themselves or are concerned about those close to them. Every £5 raised can help pay for a potentially life-saving contact to HOPELINEUK from a young person wanting to stay safe from their thoughts of suicide.
Jane's Charity - Midlands Animal Rescue
Midlands animal rescue team are a group of dedicated volunteers who rescue, rehabilitate and re-home animals whose wellbeing could be in danger. The volunteers care for the rescues from their homes and all funds given to the charity go towards whatever veterinary treatment, food and equipment the animals require before being re-homed. The charity is extremely small and relies solely on donations and the goodwill of the volunteers who rescue each animal. Please help me to help them in whatever way you can!
