For fifteen years New Heights community project has worked with members of the Kingstanding community to provide support services and help the most vulnerable. Kingstanding has a large elderly community, with many disabled residents. Sadly Covid-19 has had a huge impact on the most vulnerable of our community, with many residents becoming further isolated and suffering an overwhelming feeling of loneliness and isolation.
In order to help support the community and address these concerns, the New Heights team sprang into action in April 2020, offering a befriending service to local residents via weekly telephone calls. Although no funding or additional staffing was provided for this service, the core staffing team felt that it was their duty to ensure the most vulnerable people that have worked with to support, continued to feel supported at one of the most vulnerable times of their lives.
As a result, New Heights befriending service was born. Since March 2020 we have made over 180 befriending calls, offering a friendly chat, emotional support and support agency information.
Funding received from this campaign would continue to fund this project.
