Beckenham Mansion Family Film Festival

Beckenham Mansion Family Film Festival

Our mission is to bring together our community and celebrate the magic of cinema through a day-long free film festival for the whole family.

We did it!

On 7th Jul 2017 we successfully raised £3,650 of £3,650 target with 19 supporters in 42 days

New stretch target

Any surplus funds will go to our Family Film Club to benefit all children and young people who visit.  We are a not-for-profit community organisation and all funds are spent on facilitating workshops and events as well as our film & arts activities.  All our events are free and run by local volunteers.

With an extra £2000 we can run the Family Film Club for another year and buy some much needed equipment.  In the coming year we want to facilitate more workshops and start our animation Arts Awards programme for children and young people with additional needs.  This means that we need to buy some mini-iPads and tripods so that we can start making our own films!

On Saturday September 2nd, the Bromley Family Film Club is hosting its very first film festival for local children and families. This will be a one-day celebration of our community and all things cinematic including animation workshops, arts & crafts activities and a fantastic line-up of films.

Inclusivity and diversity will be key and our programme of films and events will reflect the community that we live in as well as take inspiration from our immediate surroundings. Our venue for the day is the fabulous Grade II listed mansion in Beckenham Place Park. This impressive Georgian building on the Bromley/Lewisham border has been hidden away from the public for a number of years and stands in a beautiful landscape of meadows and woodland. Now open to the public it provides a space for locals to come together to share in fun, engaging activities with family and friends.

What we'll deliver:

  • An inclusive event for children and young people with and without additional needs, their siblings, family and friends.
  • Drop-in animation workshops for children and parents to work on together.
  • Fun activities including balloon modelling, a guided walk in the sensory garden, face painting, animation workshops and plenty of arts & crafts activities!
  • Collaboration opportunities with local organisations and businesses.
  • Volunteering opportunities and skills development for young people.
  • Free entry for local children and families.

 Who will make it happen?

Our Family Film Club has been running since 2015 and although this is our first festival we have great partners and experienced volunteers to help us achieve a successful day.  We are partnering with South East London’s ‘Free Film Festivals’ who have ample experience and will provide logistical support to ensure the smooth running of the event.   The Beckenham Place Mansion is also fully supporting our event and will take over in the evening with a special outdoor screening for the older members of the family.

Why it's a great idea:

There are limited opportunities for children and young people with additional needs to engage with the arts in the Bromley/ Lewisham area.  Our club was set up in 2015 to create a safe and relaxed space for children and young people to enjoy a cinema experience together with their families and friends.

With this festival we want to share our passion for cinema with children and young people from across the community and bring people together to enjoy a great movie and celebrate their local area.

Our choice of films will speak to families from all backgrounds and nationalities and provide a perfect introduction to our programme this coming year.  By incorporating workshops, short films and carefully curated events we will create a fun and unique experience to suit all ages and abilities.

What do we need funding for?

We need funding to make this event happen and we rely on local sponsorship and on this crowdfunding initiative to make it a success.  You, the residents, our lovely local businesses, friends and family are key ingredients to help ensure we can do this!  So what do we need funding for and how will we spend it?
