Any extra money will be used to buy more supplies from toothpaste to tents!

Project aim

We are raising funds to pay for a van, petrol and a return ferry crossing at the end of October to support the refugees in Calais.

About the project

As you are no doubt aware, refugees in Calais need our help as the EU as well as our UK government continues to do nothing.

We are a growing group of individuals coming together to support our fellow human-beings currently living in what's been described by volunteers on the ground as a 'humanitarian- disaster'.

There are up to 4,000 people living in squalid conditions in Calais, mostly men but including women, young children and some with serious medical requirements.

We are collecting emergency supplies for basic survival to deliver in late October (Date tbc)

  • Food
  • Shelter - Tents, Sleeping bags, Blankets
  • Clothing & Shoes
  • Games/Books/Pens/Paper

What We Need & What You Get

We are raising money that will cover our transportation costs - van, ferry & fuel. We estimate this will be in the region of £400 in total.

All excess funds will be used to buy supplies that we will deliver to local charities working directly with the camp refugees on the ground.

As the situation on the ground is a volatile and rapidly changing environment we will be liaising directly with the local organisations who work directly with refugees to ensure that the supplies we are bringing are the most needed at that time.

The Impact

As the winter approaches the difference warmth, shelter and food (basic survival needs that most of us take for granted) could be literally life-saving for some people.

The only protections from the elements are tents and improvised shelters constructed from pallets and tarpaulin, some of which sleep up to 40 at a time. Winter is just around the corner and volunteers are increasingly concerned about the lack of men's shoes, warm clothing and sleeping bags.

Those in the camp are forced to rely on charity for their survival but resources are stretched to breaking point. A makeshift hospital in the camp treats up to 90 people a day, some with serious injuries. Medical supplies are desperately low.

Every day those of the camp’s residents who are able to do so visit the Jules Ferry day centre in hope of receiving one of the government funded free meals. Some queue from 11am until 6pm; however there is only enough food for 2,000 people and countless leave empty handed.

Many of the refugees are malnourished.

The U.N. has described the situation in Calais as a "Civil Emergency" and called for a “comprehensive package and.... a sustainable response.” Sadly this is not forthcoming and the day to day lives of those in the camps is in the hands of volunteers and the generosity of people such as you.

Risks & Challenges

The situation in Calais is volatile and rapidly changing, we are staying in contact with local aid organisations to ensure that the money we collect can be used to buy the most appropriate and useful supplies needed at the time.

If for any reason we are unable to make our journey due to political/legal changes that impact the borders and the camp we will donate any funds collected directly to the organisations working with refugees in Calais.
