On 27th November 2018 we successfully raised £370 with 14 supporters in 35 days

We are renovating a double-decker bus to provide a much needed library space for our school.

Baston CE Primary School is a one form entry village school in Baston, South Lincolnshire. The school has grown over the years to the point that it is now bursting at the seams. With our catchment area reaching more than just our village here in Baston.

The PTA of the school is made up of 15 very active committee members and we are proud to have been able to provide our school with many exciting extras, including.. outdoor benches, a super cool forest school area, zorbing, lazer tag, house point counters and an accompanying collection system. This has all been achieved through our hardwork, determination and amazing fundraising skills through events such as discos, film nights and gift stalls, healthy eating tuck shops and a monthly cake raffle.

Thanks to the support, hardwork and continuous fundraising by the PTA the school has been provided with outdoor benches, a super cool forest school area, house point counters, and an ever growing amazing reading spine for all classes.

However we now have much much bigger hopes and dreams for our much loved school and we know that this time we are going to need a bit of a helping hand with our fundraising.

Space is at a premium at our school with it originally being designed for 100 pupils and now it has 189 on the children roll. This means that we do not have a library space that engages children in reading. Our existing library is a very small (approx 11ft x 10ft), poorly-lit room with a few shelves of out of date books and no space for children to sit and enjoy reading. It is next door to the toilets and sits at the very back of the school building.

In a world which is seeing an ever-increasing growth in technology, it feels more important than ever to encourage our children to read actual books. We are asking you to help our children experience the joy of reading a wide, exciting world of texts in a place that inspires and motivates them.

As there is no available indoor space at all, we have come up with the idea of a ..

Bus Library!

A moveable space would be the perfect solution and would help us manage the restrictions we face.

We have kindly been donated an 02 plate Double Decker bus from East Midlands Stagecoach.  We are going to renovate the bus and install it on the school ground so that the children have a large, bright, interesting, fun library to go to. The bus could be used for so many additional activities such as a book club, story time, craft club, one to one learning, SAT revision, tuck shop, sensory learning.. not to mention refreshments at many sports events.

We have a host of willing local tradesmen in our village that would help in the re-fit process and our research to date tells us that the bus itself could be sourced locally. We know the bus can be stored at a members' property while we get everything ready and we're confident that this could be a real community-based adventure!

We have some hard-earned funds to go towards the costs and we are always trying hard to increase this amount. The on-going financial support we give our school has been vital in providing the children with wider opportunities to date, but we know that we can only ask so much from our community in a short time frame. We also know that every second counts for our children and that working alone- without your support- will take us far longer to reach our goal. This project is something we need to complete sooner than later.

Please, please help our little readers!
