Raising these funds will support the vital work we provide to Young Carers and their Families in Basingstoke & Deane. COVID has had a huge impact on our service with regards to donations coming in, fundraising events being cancelled and some grants had applied to shutting down the process due to the pandemic. This has left our organisation with a gap income. During the COVID period young carers have undertaken even more caring responsibilities including caring for their families with mental health, drug and alcohol addiction and physical disabilities. Services have not been able to support them during this period and we have not been able to provide respite in person. The funding will allow us to provide COVID safe respite activities outside, support our organisation to find a facility/venue to run from in a safe environment to enable us to adhere to government guidelines for front line workers to work from and provide extra support to help those families really struggling with mental health. This will enable us to employee a specialist mental health professional to help assist in delivering a health and wellbeing programme for all young carers and their families and will ensure that they do not become more vulnerable than they already are. This will initially be a 6 month intervention with the scope to develop the project and receive further support to continue are approach. If successful this would provide the young carers and their families support they require and will help reduce the impact on the NHS by our interventions. However to do this we require the missing income to be able to undertake our work. We will ensure that we use all social media platforms and news paper outlets to promote this work and raise awareness.
