Barnsley Care Leavers Christmas Dinner
We did it
On 30th November 2018 we successfully raised £1,405 with 35 supporters in 56 days

We are raising funds to provide a fantastic Christmas Day for our care leavers in Barnsley, who would otherwise be spending Christmas alone.

New stretch target

We are aiming to raise enough to cover the cost of this years dinner along with being able to buy presents for all the young people attending and provide transport to and from the venue.

If we were fortunate enough to raise additional funds we would use this to begin planning for next years Christmas Dinner so that we could invite a larger number of care experienced young people.

Thank you for reading our Crowdfunding page. We are a Community Group in Barnsley who are organising a special Christmas Day this year for some very special people.

We have been inspired by The Lemn Sissay Foundation, you can read more by clicking on the link This organisation was set up by Lemn Sissay, who is a poet and writer. Lemn Sissay is a care leaver himself, in 2017 he set up the foundation after The Christmas Dinners started in 2013. These dinners have been running in cities across the UK including Manchester, Leeds and Sheffield. More and more are setting up every year. There is further information about the background of the project on the website.

As I am sure you will know Christmas is a time for families and friends, however, for some Christmas can be a lonely time especially when there are no family and friends to share it with.  This is particularly relevant to many young people who have been in care. Christmas can be a difficult time when others are enjoying the festive season many care leavers are alone and isolated.

The aim of the Christmas Dinner project is to provide a fun filled, very special Christmas Day which includes a lovely Christmas dinner for care leavers aged 18-25 years who would otherwise spend Christmas alone. The day is organised and run by volunteers and the day is funded by donations.

This will be Barnsley ‘s first year of putting on such an event and we are asking for donations which will be used to fund the dinner, transport to and from the event for the young people, lots of fabulous presents for the young people attending and decorations to make the venue and day a truly magical day.

You can help us make the day special by donating via this page.

Thank you for your support it is much appreciated,

Barnsley Steering Group.
