Our aim is to create a professional touring theatre company that supports graduate students in the local community.
Our initial objective is to tour a 6-show production of 'The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee' across three local theatres; The Shelley Theatre in Boscombe, The Jellicoe Theatre, Poole and The Hub Theatre in Southampton. Our research indicates that there is a lack of professional touring companies within these areas and we wish to provide a high-quality experience for the public. Having spent several years lecturing in both the F.E and H.E sector, we continue to see graduate students unable to find successful employment as paid, musical theatre performers within the industry due to two main reasons; the competitive nature of musical theatre being so prevalent in hot spots such as London and a lack of professional, musical theatre companies in the southwest of England. The south- west of England is often overlooked and we would like to change that, giving back to the community and providing students opportunities to build a successful portfolio of work, resulting in inspiring other young performers along the way. However, this is not our only objective, we want to create a vehicle for graduate performers who have not been afforded the opportunity to work professionally in the arts. We aim to produce commercial and non-commercial works for the stage and tour these projects across the country, reaching different communities in the south-west and reaching a wide demographic. Through this, we are hoping to inspire young student audiences to offer opportunities for performers after graduating from University.
