BABs Baps so far....
BABs Baps trialed from home, on Saturday and Sunday's for 6 weeks and it was a massive success. We had regular customers and new customers each week and loved that we could provide fresh, high quality products in every order/menu option and deliver it within 30 minutes. Our organised personal plans fell for 3 weeks after our trial ended and from there we decided to not continue it from home but still spoke about it regularly.
A sandwich shop in Heywood has recently been advertised for rent and includes a 2 bedroom flat above! PERFECT! A business location for BABs Baps and somewhere to live meaning we can be there at all times. Planned hours at present will be Monday to Friday, 6am to 3pm and 8am to 2pm on Saturday and Sunday. But with living upstairs, we would look to offer an evening menu for people going off to work on night's or not wanting to cook. The opportunities are endless!!
At present there's just the 2 of us, Becka and Andy. Partners of nearly 3 years. Becka has a qualification in Food Preparation, Cooking and Hospitality, and with a bit of guidance and training, Andy can now cook 6 eggs all at once.... We both currently work full time. Andy being at his workplace for over 15 years and me starting at mine, after a few rocky years changing jobs, in February 2018. The plan is for me to leave my full time job to get BABs Baps kick started, throwing all my energy, time and passion into it. But I won't be alone. With the help of good friends and family, who can cook, drive for deliveries, have years of kitchen experience between them and one of them makes the most amazing selection of cakes and pies, and buffets, we are sure to smash it!
The initial cost to just get into the premises is roughly £2000. This is 1 months rent and an additional 6 weeks of rent costing a total of £1725. There are some fees to be paid also and therefore this has been rounded to £2000. The extra £3000 will get us the basic things we need to get started plus a major deep clean and change of decor to the shop entrance to make it our own. The business kitchen is also our home/own kitchen so the things we currently have will come with us (fridge freezer, cooker, pots, pans, knives etc) but it is always good to have additional things i.e bain-marie, extra fridge freezer, bigger pans, more utensils, correct storage tubs, files for paperwork, labels, takeaway tubs, napkins, bags and most importantly FOOD! We also want to advertise as best we can, to spread the word of who we are, where we are and what we have to offer plus print off menus to takeaway and ensure we have everything we need. We understand businesses cannot start without funds but also know you don't need 10s of thousands of pounds to get started either. We aim to have Andy out of full time work within 12- 18 months of being open plus have a team working alongside us permanently. We want to offer specials daily, ensure everyone can grab breakfast on their way to work, hence the opening hours, and let the people of Heywood and surrounding areas taste our good quality, cooked with love and passion food.
