I have been teaching Yoga for 2 years and have also been working as a Professional Dancer and Teacher for over 15 years. I have a great understanding of the body and have been able to create a safe space for people to explore their themselves physically and mentally in my yoga classes. Yoga has helped me overcome my own issues with my past trauma of Anorexia, which I developed as a child and have been battling to the present day. It has also allowed me to flourish and become my most authentic self in ways that dance has not been able to do. There is an acceptance within the yoga community that allows space for everyone to work together and value each others journey.
Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, all my yoga and dance work stopped over night, leaving me with no financial support other than my partner (who also works in the arts but thankfully kept his job, where so many within our industry have sadly disappeared) and a small amount of furlough from a part time job in Lush. To try and maintain my own mental health, more so than my physical, I began to offer free classes online via Facebook and Instagram. Over time, this very slowly developed into a few people offering to pay me a small class fee for my guidance and support which then enabled me to purchase Zoom and deliver Live Classes to paying customers throughout the majorityn of the first COVID-19 Lockdown. It was here that my own Online Studio, 'Maya Yoga Wales UK' was born. In time, as the gyms slowly returned and some of my live classes returned yet I have still maintianed an online presence to make sure that I can still create that safe space for people to practice at home.
As I move forward, I am eager to further expand my Yoga Career, especially as the Dance world is taking much longer to recover. I am currently undertaking further Online Training to become a 500hr certified teacher and have just booked my next online course in Shamanic Healing which I hope will further heighten my experience as a developing Yin & Cacao Cermeony Facilitator.
A goal of mine, which has been on my bucket list for a few years as a result tof working part time for the UK Cosmetic Company Lush, is to expand upon my knowledge of the body in more detail and become a Massage Therapist. I had hoped to have recieved training through Lush but due to the pandemic, they had to stop and I have now since left the company.
In keeping with my own developing spiritual beliefs through my Celtic roots and allowing myself the time to explore a deeper connection to my body and mind through my Cacao ceremonies and Yoga Practice, I would like to train as a Holistic Ayurvedic Yoga Massage Therapist. This training would allow me to offer another holistic service to my current yoga clients and also expand out into other areas of holisitc and spritual healing.
Hopefully once this is complete, I would like to finally set up my own little studio space, (currently use my living room) so that I can have a dedicated space to deliver my yoga classes online, invite private 1:1 clients and deliver yoga massage therapy within a supported, welcoming and open space.
