Avoidance
We did it
On 5th June 2017 we successfully raised £300 with 19 supporters in 42 days

We are raising funds to help support the production of the new play Avoidance by award winning playwright Mike Heath

by Richard Douglas in Manchester, England, United Kingdom

Avoidance by Mike Heath

Avoidance is Mike's 16th stage-play .  It started off life as a Development Week Challenge - a play written in a short amount of time, specially to be read at Studio Salford Development Week 8.  We read it in front of an audience and received written feedback from them, which was used to develop the script further.  And after another rehearsed reading at Development Week 9, it's ready to go.

We have a brillaint cast in place with Jo Dakin playing Michelle, Ant Bacon as Damian and Greg Kelly cast in the role of Tom.   The cast and crew are all massively commited to the play and have agreed to forego their usual fee, instead sharing any profit made from ticket sales after the venue has been paid.  And with no guaranteed funding other than personal donations from us you can imagine that this makes the project quite lean, financially.  This is where you can help us.

The play will be staged at The Kings Arms Theatre from Wed 31st May - Sat 3rd June.

The bigger picture

This is more than just a play to entertain people (though it is obviously that too!)  The project will also support two interns who will gain incredibly valuable, hands-on experience and give our producer Richard, his first professional experience working on a play other than his own.

We will also open up discussion about themes in the play through social media on Twitter @AvoidancePlay  and Facebook

Themes include loss, grief and moving on; and the merits, or otherwise, of digging up the past.

How you can help

The long and short of it is that we are asking you for money.  Funds raised will go towards production expenses - props, costumes, insurances, venue, marketing and so on.

Even with the £500 target it's going to be tight so we're doing everything we can to produce a top notch show with minimal funds and anything you can offer will help us to do just that.

Even if it's only a few quid we'll be extremely grateful so thanks for reading and if you're able to help us out - thank you VERY much indeed!

About Avoidance

Tom has been dead for 15 years. At least, that’s what his sister, Michelle, thinks. Their mother has since passed away, leaving her with husband, Damian, trapped in a house haunted by memories. Damian is desperate for them to move to make a fresh start.

When Tom appears on the doorstep, hope rears its head for Michelle and presents an opportunity for Damian.

But why did Tom disappear, and what has he come home to tell her?

A tale of truth and hope, when all hope has been jettisoned.

The new play by Mike Heath.

Starring Ant Bacon, Jo Dakin and Greg Kelly
