Broken Spectacles Theatre Company have created 'At Sea', a fast paced, poetic and humorous performance that follows a woman through the absurdities of life’s daily rituals in the family and the place of work. It explores our longing within motherhood for freedom and the wild. It raises the question of what we do with its emotional complexities; what we desire and what we keep hidden away.
As a starting point, we took the tale of the Selkie (a mythical half human-half seal), who loses her seal skin and as a result cannot return to the sea. Taken in by a fisherman, her need to return to the wild is inescapable.
'At Sea' currently exists as a scratch piece. We want to develop it into a touring production for Autumn 2017/Spring 2018. We are looking for your help to work with local artists to make set, puppets, music and design lighting.
'At Sea' will be launched at Dartington on 1st June 2017, to which all donors will be invited, followed by a VIP drinks reception.
2 outreach projects are planned for Young Carers and Artists with Young Children, co-hosted by Doorstep Arts. Broken Spectacles aim to establish a way of supporting parents to continue working in the arts.
