Providing Assistance Dogs to change the lives of young people and their families with Autism, Down's Syndrome or Physically Disablement

by Peter Rufus in Bournemouth, England, United Kingdom

New stretch target

If more funds become available, Helpful Hounds Assistance Dogs would use this to increase the number of families or Schools we could help buy funding additional dogs. i.e. £5,000 would set us on the road to acquiring and training another dog for either:

  • A family dealing with Autism or Physical disablement
  • A School with Special needs Students

Either way, each dog, once trained will make a great impact in the environment it is working.

Our mission

Every young person has the right to achieve their full potential in life and the benefits of a well trained Assistance dog working with families dealing with Autism, Down's Syndrome or Physical Disability.

That is where a Helpful Hound can change lives. Helpful Hounds Assistance Dogs trains dogs to work with Autism, Down's syndrome or Physical Disablement and we, currently, are supporting 23 families, four physically disabled people as well as five dogs working in Schools with Special Needs Students.

Our Helpful Hounds can be trained to help to reduce stress, give Deep Pressure Therapy, provide an alert for an oncoming medical condition as well as doing tasks such as picking things up, turning on lights and fetching the post. Above all they provide great companionship that helps with increasing confidence for Social interaction and school situations.

We are looking, now, to more puppies as part of our development plan.  The money we are raising will cover the acquisition, training and specific equipment needed for a puppy.

On our website, you will find a number of Testimonials from families and Schools highlighting the difference that the Assistance Dog has made, not only to the young person, but to the whole family. Two of these stories are represented by the photos above of Whisper and Toto (plus their Partners!)

It is our objective is to help provide the best opportunity for each young person to achieve their full potential, both educationally and socially.

Your help today will be invaluable and so much appreciated by Helpful Hounds Assistance Dogs and the families we support.
