'My daughter (13) started with the Arts For Life Project two terms ago and her younger sister (11) started a different session a term later. Both girls have a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) but are quite different, but both have the characteristic lack of social know-how that most people take for granted. They want to be social and have friends, but find this aspect of everyday life very challenging. AFLP has helped both of them massively in a relatively short period of time.
First of all, they both love going and wish they could go more often. They enjoy the activities and the people and the surroundings. It's an escape for them from their everyday home and school life, which is really important at this age. It's a chunk of time that they aren't retreating to their phones but are having fun and just 'hanging out' with friends in a safe environment.
I'd recommend AFLP to anyone who has a child who has difficulties socially or emotionally for any reason.
In fact my 9 year old boy, who also has ASD, and my 15 year old daughter, will be starting with them in September too.'
'Creative Crew' are weekly all inclusive sessions for 6-19 year olds that use all aspects of The Arts to offer an environment of inclusion, understanding and nurture along with hidden therapeutic support for personal development. Through the power of the arts we support, encourage and develop our users ability to manage their daily lives. The sessions offer social interaction, therapeutic access 1:2:1 or within a group structure, emotional development and skills opportunities.
The project encourages integration, communication and education for mental well-being, covering a wide spectrum of ability for all young people.
We open our doors to all including helping integrate those with mental health and learning difficulties into the wider community.
This project offers rewards in return for your donation.
