With arts funding being cut we are asking for funding to help us to deliver a program of 6 exciting artist residencies over the course of 2016, within our Filament 14 space.
Filament 14 is a studio/exhibition space within our studio artist community. The space is used as a base to explore a variety of different work within Oxford. We want to bring together artists from different cultural backgrounds, with a wide variety of practices, to work and exchange ideas with our artists.
Our hope is to offer a payment to each artist who successfully applies. This will cover the cost of accommodation, some materials and the studio space itself during a two week residency.
We have worked out that each residency could therefore cost the artist 420, and this is the amount we have based our total on.
Being able to cover this cost would enable us to reach a wider network of artists with a range of valuable experience to further their practice. Whilst at the same time supporting our own artists in their own practice. Residencies offer the opportunity to engage in critical debate and discussion between both the visiting artists and the resident artists whilst forming a wide network for future collaboration.
It is also hoped that during the residencies we will have an opportunity to engage the wider local artistic community with exhibitions and talks about the work being undertaken in the space.
