The centenary of the signing of the First World War Armistice, and the role played by international rugby players from across the allied forces, will be commemorated through three events in aid of Rugby for Heroes and The Royal British Legion, to be known as the Armistice 100 Trilogy.
Led by our charity patron Mike Tindall MBE, we will be honouring those who gave the ultimate sacrifice more than 100 years ago and your support will help us drive our efforts forward and ensure that our service personnel making the transition to civilian life get the support they need.
We have created a number of limited edition items including an Armistice 100 Rugby for Heroes replica shirt, t-shirt and car sticker that we'd love to give you in return for your support. We also have a limited number of "money can't buy" rewards for you to get your hands on so we hope we have something for everyone!
A 300-mile bike ride scheduled for the 29th to 31st August will see an elite team of cyclists ride from Twickenham Stadium to Compiegne, the site of the First World War Armistice. The ride will culminate in a ceremony at the Armistice site on 1st September followed by a rugby match at Compiegne RC between a Rugby for Heroes XV and a Compiegne XV.
“The Armistice 100 Bike Ride & Match will join the rugby and forces communities together and allow us as members of the rugby community to honour those who shared our passion for the game and who gave the ultimate sacrifice in the First World War. It will be a privilege to ride alongside some of our nation’s heroes as we pay our respects in this important anniversary year” – Mike Tindall MBE, Patron of Rugby for Heroes.
Post-ride, the Armistice 100 Remembrance Dinner will take place on 8th November and will be hosted by charity ambassador Nick Knowles who states - “I’m excited and honoured to be part of the Rugby for Heroes Armistice celebrations and commemoration, remembering those from the rugby family who laid down their lives for our freedom.” The fundraising reception and dinner will be held at Twickenham Stadium and will be attended by both ex-professional rugby players and celebrities.
The final event of the Armistice 100 Trilogy will take place over Remembrance weekend in November where a Rugby for Heroes International XV will take on a French Legends XV in a commemorative fundraising rugby match.
Our target of £15,000 will go towards adding another Transition Through Rugby course to our 2019 calendar. The aim of this unique course is to support military service men and women through the sport of rugby. Players provide professional expertise guidance and mentoring to help develop core life skills, teamwork, a greater depth and knowledge of the sport.
