Ishtar is about to be 18. For her 18th, she's asking her parents and local community if they can help her support refugee families arriving in Greece.
This September, Ishtar and her mum are heading to Thessaloniki to work in the Help Refugees warehouse, sorting and preparing donations for distribution to families arriving from Syria.
We'll be helping in the on-site kitchen, Workshop and Fresh Fruit and Veg Station. Its entirely staffed by volunteers, and your help would be so appreciated to help families to be fed and sheltered.
In collaboration with a local grass-roots organisation, The Food Project, Help Refugees deliver food parcels to almost all refugees currently in Northern Greece. Many are stranded, under-nourished or exempt from government-funded assistance. The Project does its best to deliver fresh veg and dry goods to refugee communities within its reach twice a week. Food and nourishment are close to our hearts, so this feels like the best way we can help.
The cost for 10 days of work in this Aid journey will be:
Hostel Accommodation £100
All Food & Meals £200
We suggested £350 as our target but you can see that its going to cost £650. We're doing our best to raise funds through as many methods as possible so that we can provide aid, and if possible give donations to secure food & shelter for more families.
Ishtar's Dad and brother will have recently returned from Calais where they are marking Zeke's 21st birthday by taking aid and volunteer time to the Help Refugees Warehouse in France.
All of this adds up.
Are you able to help Ishtar and her mum give 10 days of work to support refugee families?
In the unlikely circumstances we raise more than the journey will cost, donations will be donated to Help Refugees to work with families and children in Greece.
Help Refugees is not just another Aid Agency. They work where many NGO's can't or won't, filling the gaps and providing emergency aid and vital services. We've worked with them a number of times before and they are without doubt the best and quickest organisation to get aid where its needed. If you want to help people like us who by chance were born somewhere else, Help Refugees is the answer.
Please donate whatever you can to help Ishtar use her 18th birthday how she's chosen to - with wisdom & compassion.
We're hosting a Wimbledon Tea at Youngs Park in Aylsham on Sat 1st July to help us raise funds and to talk to people about the work that's needed. We'd LOVE to see you there so we can tell you all about what we'll be doing and how you're helping that to happen.
Please join us for an afternoon of Strawberry Tea and Prosecco (or a cuppa) and if you like the tennis, watch the match on the big screen. If not, just come and bask in the sun and chat to your friends knowing you're doing a great thing and getting a glass of bubbly to say thanks.
Tickets are £7.50 and can be bought from Barnwells in Aylsham or here through ticketsource: https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/date/368648
With thanks, Cata
