New stretch target

Our stretch target is £7,500, which means we can do more – more work in schools, more children inspired to sing, learn and look to the stars.  Please do keep donating – every pound will help make Apollo – One Giant Leap! bigger and better.

Fifty years went to the moon!  And Dorchester Arts wants to celebrate by creating an amazing musical outdoor event in Dorchester, part of the town's 'Moonbury Rings' celebration in July 2019.

On 19 July 2019 Dorchester Town Council is to bring the internationally famous 'Museum of the Moon' to the centre of town - a 7 metre diameter, inflatable giant moon, suspended and shining over Maumbury Rings.

Dorchester Arts wants to celebrate with a performance of a new musical piece for children's voices, created by Dorchester-based musician and composer Geof Edge - called Apollo - One Giant Leap! Geof will work with renowned conductor, arranger and percussionist Alasdair Malloy to make this a musical event to remember.

This will involve actors, musicians and giant screens to describe the dramatic events of the Apollo 11 space mission in July 1969.  It  will be performed by 500 children from Dorchester schools, accompanied by professional musicians, all singing under the giant moon in 'Moonbury Rings'.

Some of the words and music will be made available in a simple form online (and in print, of course) for anyone to learn and sing on the night, so that the whole community can join in.

Together we will take the audience on an imaginative journey through time and space, celebrating all things lunar as we go, with film and images related to the moon and the Apollo missions – including the famous bits!

So for one amazing night we can take Dorchester to the moon and back, with beautiful music sung under an illuminated moon, shining through the darkness and providing a perfect backdrop!

We want to recreate an amazing feeling for a new generation – so that in 2069, on the 100th anniversary, today’s children can look back and remember how they celebrated, back in the day.

Would you like to be part of this and help make it happen?  We would like to raise £7,500 towards taking the music into schools, giving 500 children the opportunity to participate in this event, and create a true community performance. We have the moon, we need the stars!

And we need your help.  Anything you can give will be welcome, and there are some great rewards!  Please be part of this mission and help us achieve…..
