Amy lives in a residential home for adults with acquired brain injury. She is 41 years old and has late stage multiple sclerosis. She struggles to find words. Amy is not her real name. Amy is socially isolated. The staff at the home often talk over Amy's head as if she doesn't exist. She lost contact with most of her family several years ago and has only occasional contact with her daughter. She loves her daughter very much. Earlier in the year we penned a very sensitive song together based on the name of her daughter. She shared her daughter's name with me when prompted for an important word in her life. It took her some time to raise the energy to be able to say her daughter's name to me.
My work at this residential home ended when funding ran out in April 2016 and ever since I have been aware that this song needs finishing. It would be easy for me to offer my time free of charge. However, after very nearly three years specialist training and a lifetime of experience I am really clear that I need to be paid for this kind of sensitive creative work so that I can then continue to do it in the future. In my defence I do a lot of creative community work free of charge. I now need to find a way forward to fund projects like this that give me control over the quality of what is being delivered.
Your money will be used to pay for my time recording the song to a high standard and to employ the services of a competent singer. To provide the time to socialise sensitively with Amy whilst sharing the recording process together. To produce a CD of the finished song and to present this to Amy for her to give to daughter.
