New stretch target

If we achieve our stretch target we will be able to fund more music sessions for young people.

We are a brass band - we want to share our music

We run four bands for elementary, intermediate and advanced level players. Our group teaching programme for beginners has attracted many new players, mostly young people, who benefit from the experience of playing music in a group.

Making music is great fun and is good for you

As well as musical skills, playing music in a group teaches teamwork, perseverance and self-confidence and is a source of social support. The band provides instruments on loan and has a bursary fund to support those who are financially disadvantaged.

Participation in arts and culture contributes to community cohesion and reduces social exclusion and isolation.  The band brings people together in sharing music; last year we played at 34 separate local events, the majority being free of charge.

We put on activities to encourage people to take up music such as our open, free-to-attend workshops run by professional musicians.  Our visits to local junior schools demonstrate brass instruments in assemblies and provide opportunities for pupils to have a go at a range of instruments.

Our Vision

The band wants to extend the accessibility of learning music throughout the local community. We have ambitious plans for further growth including establishing a new Youth Band and launching a Brass Academy for teaching. To do all this we are building a new purpose designed, accessible rehearsal facility.  We have raised over £380,000 through grants, donations and local fundraising events which is sufficient to fund the construction of the building. We are now trying raise funds for the final phase of the project to furnish and fit out the building.

We are a much loved part of our community

The band has a history of over 175 years entertaining local people and is a much loved part of Amersham's heritage. Here are some quotes from our community:

How you can help

Your support can help to make our dream of a new rehearsal facility a reality.  The new building will transform the experience of learning music and will be completed in June 2020. With your help we can complete the fitting and furnishing so that we can extend music-making to many more people, advancing their education, health and wellbeing.
