A Bronze Statue in memory of the Airborne Forces history in Aldershot. This is something that we would really like to address.

Gerry McGovern ex Airborne Forces 5 Airborne Brigade 216 Signal Regiment based in Aldershot UK, a project manager working for Tfl / LU in London, now based in Hadleigh In Essex. Helping raising funds for The Parachute memorial fund With the relocation of the Parachute regiment and the attached Airborne arms to Colchester and the subsequent demolition of Montgomery Lines in Aldershot. The only things that remain to remind people of the 50 years that the Parachute Regiment & Airborne Forces were based in Aldershot are a graveyard full of bodies and three memorials for Northern Ireland, The Falklands and Iraq, Afghan and Macedonia. There is nothing of substance in memory of the regiments service and history in Aldershot. This is something that we would really like to address. We have had a meeting with the Commander Home Command Lt Gen James Ian Bashall CBE & the Garrison Commander Lt Col Nigel Macgregor, where we gave a brief of our proposition. They have agreed with our idea and we now have their backing. We have met with the and gained the agreement of the Garrison Church Padre, Major Steve Franklin RAChD and he has been given the clearance for the project to go ahead form the Archdeacon of the Army. So we now have all the necessary permissions to place a Bronze Statue of a Paratrooper similar to the statue in the Photographs but life size. The bronze will stand on a slab of Falklands granite and be placed in the grounds of the Garrison Church. The granite slab has been posted from the Falkland Island and will be arriving in the UK shortly. We intend to have it produced for Airborne Forces Day 2019 on Saturday the 6th of July 2019. There will be a parade at the Garrison Church to unveil it. We now have a sculptor on board who has produced many bronze models including military ones. Amy Goodman, who produced the Pegasus statue in the Merville Grounds Barracks in Colchester. The cost is going to be around £50,000.00 and we have started fund raising to cover the costs. The Statue is now in the process of being made and updates as to its progress will be posted on this page for everyone to see. A series of short films by Kev Capon he whole project form start to finish will be posted as they are produced. If you like our idea and would like to be part of the commissioning of the Airborne Soldier Statue in Aldershot in memory of all of those who have served and more so for those who have given there ultimate sacrifice please donate to this crowd funding your generosity no matter how small or large will be gratefully received there will be a record produced to all that have donated to fund the memorial. All the persons concerned with the memorial group are either serving or ex serving Airborne Forces and carryout all works in there own time and cost.
