We support young children with special needs and run inclusive pre-school and playscheme sessions at our Centre where children with and without disabilities can play, learn and develop together. We want to install accessible washrooms in our Centre, so that all our children whatever their ability can use the toilet or have a nappy changed with dignity and ease and so that all the children can then wash their hands together.
We want to install new toilet cubicles in bright new colours with one cubicle big enough to take a walker or an adult alongside the child to support them, this will mean that those children with mobility issues but not in nappies can use a toilet like everyone else.
We want to install a height adjustable changing table so that those children still needing to wear nappies can get onto the table themselves to be changed and the table can be raised saving the backs of our staff!
Lastly we want to install sensor everything, flushes, taps, soap dispensers and hand dryers so that the children whatever their ability can use everything easily. Some of our children don't have the mobility, strength or fine motor control to push a flush or turn a tap so sensor control will mean they can take control of these simple actions and not rely on an adult to help. This will give them independence in these aspects of their personal care and will show the able children we have at the Centre that their disabled friends can do exactly what they do.
