My name's Sam and I'm the creator of Access For Autism.
I’m self diagnosed autistic (Aspergers if you’re not going by the DSM) and live with mental health problems. I’m self diagnosed because of the difficulty of accessing a suitable assessment as an adult and a woman with comorbidities (I’m working on it).
Before planning Access For Autism I had struggled with even getting access to an interview. My knowledge is all self-taught and I didn’t fit into mainstream education, so I had no proof of my skills and no formal qualifications. I was completely blocked out of the work world.
The more time I remained unemployed and out of education, the further away my dream of just being in work became. I realised if it kept on going like this, I would be just be further and further blocked out. I felt angry for myself, but also for everyone else that must be in the same position.
I had a lot to give, so I decided to create my own role. That’s how Access For Autism was created.
I really care about giving people the opportunities they deserve and making sure they realise their strengths. I also believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to be independent and able to support themselves.
Access for autism will provide the following services:
We create appropriate CV’s and cover letters. We’ll go through the interview process and prepare you for what’s to come.
Workplace adjustments reports and assessments
We’ll have an assessment arranged for workplace adjustments and create a report of the reasonable adjustments that need to be implemented.
Instead of just focusing on CV’s we hold assessment sessions that are appropriate for the position the candidate is applying for.
The assessments will take place online.
We hold monthly mentoring and informal catch up’s for up to 6 months to make sure the situation is working for everyone.
We’re raising money to fund the building of our new-look website with job search and application functionalities and a booking system. We need to create resources that will include documents and videos to help with everything from managing anxiety to creating your CV and we need to find our perfect team. Finally, we need to raise funds for computers, equipment, legal advice and training for whole team.
