WHO WE ARE
Aberdeen Taexali is Aberdeens first inclusive rugby team for Gay, straight, bi & trans men. The team was set up as a way to reach out to the LGBT community and bring people together who share a common goal and interest. There can often be a stigma around sports within the LGBT community and we want to do our part is breaking down some of the barriers that exist.
The physical aspect of the sport has the obvious health benefits but we want to do more. By bringing together like-minded people in a safe and fun environment we can also help with aspects of peoples mental health. By being part of a team where there is no judgement means everyone is free to be whoever and whatever they want.
Aberdeen Taexali is first and foremost about adding something extra to the local LGBT community in Aberdeen. A new sports team who are accepting of all, a team where everyone supports each other and a team that can add something more. We train together, we play together, we socialise together. Aberdeen Taexali are also proud to be part of the IGR (International Gay Rugby) as a developing team. The IGR is an international gay rugby community with teams all across the globe. Being part of the IGR provides us with the opportunity to meet other team within the UK and from across the world and help spread the word about gay/inclusive rugby.
THE MONEY BIT
This is why we are here after all.... The money we raise from the crowd fund will go towards costs associated with developing and building the team. We are looking to raise enough money to allow us, in the first instance, to buy our own training equipment, team kits and help secure regular training facilities and coaches. Additional funding and support will go towards travel costs associated with away games and tournaments in the future. We are a non-profit club so all money raised will be used for the benefit and future development of the team.
