PLEASE help me build a caring environment for people that need help
I have been in care roles for the past 7 years of my life. I started out when I was around 19-20 years old. Since then I have learnt a lot and seen a lot.
I have had a number of different roles in the care industry, which has taught me not only how to ‘do the job’ but how to do it with compassion. I have learnt so much from talking with clients which had enabled me build a rapport and be able to provide them with person centred care.
During my many roles I have seen how the care industry is just like any other business. No matter how much the clients pay for your services, how fancy things look on the outside, most care agencies are just a business. Finding one that provides care from the heart, with compassion is struggle.
It breaks my heart knowing that many of the clients I have once provided care for are now not being treated with the dignity and respect they deserve. Knowing that carers are rushing them, not providing the correct device and not even holding a simple conversation.
For some people, their carers are the only people they see day in and day out. To have a carer that walks through your door, quickly pulls you out of bed, a flannel wash and dress, then throws a bowl of cereal, coffee and medication in your face before hurriedly leaving is just heartbreaking to see.
So please, help me build a care provider that treats the clients with respect, that understand their individuality and that will pride themselves on actually caring from the heart.
Being a carer isn’t a job. It’s a way of life. You’ve got to be in it for the right reasons.
