We are Girlguiding South Woodham Ferrers, a lively group of girls and young women who over the past 5 years have raised over £ 200,000 to build our new HQ. We are lucky to be based on a lovely plot of land with access to the creek footpaths and Marsh Farm country park.
Our old building had been in use since 1983 and had become very dilapidated. In 2009 we made the decision to replace it and in January 2014 the work began. It is due to be completed in August and we hope our meetings will start again in the new building in September. We will hold unit meetings in our HQ from Monday to Friday evening and also aim to use the building for activity days and holidays.
What do we do?
In South Woodham Ferrers we are one of the largest youth groups and at present have 220 members ranging from age 5 to 25. We also have a dedicated team of volunteers who lead the units. Girlguiding provides a girl-only space for today's girl and we aim to develop the full potential of every girl and give her confidence to try anything. The girls get involved in badge activities, cook-outs, visits to various professionals ie the fire station, the local vet and the lifeboat station. They go out on hikes, geocaching, orienteering, and go away on camps and holidays.
Why a bathroom?
We have raised enough money to complete and decorate our new building but don't have sufficient funds to fit out and complete our new bathroom. It will have two showers, washbasins and four toilets and will be such an improvement from the one we had in our old building which was very cramped. With two showers we can now offer a much better experience for users of our building. Outside we have grounds which can accommodate small camps and our building has two large halls which will easily accommodate guide and brownie holidays.
If you make a small pledge we will reward you with multiple thank yous and a thank you badge. For larger pledges please join us on our opening day or have fun with us at a camp fire.
Please show your support and pledge on one of the fantastic rewards today!
