We did it
On 23rd June 2014 we successfully raised £10,830 with 42 supporters in 42 days

The Mendelssohn on Mull Music Festival brings together seasoned musicians and young professionals at the start of their careers, for a week of music tutoring and free public concerts across the Isle of Mull.  Both musicians and audiences are inspired by the wild beauty that drew composer Felix Mendelssohn to this region, and inspired his renowned Hebridean Overture.

We provide young musicians at the start of their professional careers the best possible opportunity to stand out in their competitive chosen field.  It's an intensive week of music tutoring by seasoned mentors, practice, and public performance, and they never let an audience down!  This year we are sponsoring 13 young people from Scotland, the UK, and Europe, and we are proud to offer this experience based on talent, and not ability to pay.

In the community, we host a popular, free week-long music workshop for island children, Mull Music Makers to introduce them to new instruments and provide professional music tutoring.  Our aim is to honour the music of Felix Mendelssohn and his fateful visit to these Islands, by encouraging a high-quality music experience for both performers and audiences, and by providing music education to encourage the next generation of music lovers

Our Artistic Director for the last 13 years, Levon Chilingirian (below at an evening ceilidh), has brought Young Professionals from Norway, Greece, Denmark, Armenia, Turkey, USA, Estonia, Sweden and Holland together with their Scottish, English, and Welsh colleagues to make Mendelssohn on Mull a truly international meeting place for the most talented musicians.

We  have raised half of the £40,000 required to stage our festival , and are now seeking like- minded music period romance and education supporters to join us in funding our remaining costs.  We will be staging 14 free public concerts at venues across the Isle of Mull, Isle of Iona, and Oban. These include: sponsorship for our young musicians and mentors, tutors and supplies for our children's workshop, printing and recording costs, and venue costs.

If you love chamber music. or the music of Felix Mendelssohn. or want to give young musicians an opportunity that will help them succeed in their competitive chosen field, or support music education for children, or believe in the benefits of the arts to remote communities, or a combination of any of these - please help us with a donation!  And if you can, join us this July for a truly memorable music experience on the beautiful Isle of Mull!
