Help turn Tower Hamlets Green this May!

Support our candidates in Bethnal Green and Bow and Poplar and Limehouse and assist the growing Green Party presence in Tower Hamlets!

We did it!

On 18th Feb 2015 we successfully raised £1,595 of £1,500 target with 57 supporters in 28 days

New stretch target

With £2000 we can not only stand our East End candidates, we can run more stalls with more literature and get the Green message spread through the Borough!

The Green Party is committed to working towards the common good. The current surge in Green Party membership is testament to the fact that British people want a change away from austerity, privatisation and greed towards a more equitable and sustainable society. Tens of thousands of people have joined in recent months, meaning across the UK, the Green Parties have more members than UKIP and the Liberal Democrats - and the numbers are going up every day! The huge cries of protest against the broadcasters' decision to leave the Greens out of the General Election debates shows that people want to hear what the Green Party has to say.

In the twin constituencies that make up Tower Hamlets: Bethnal Green and Bow and Poplar and Limehouse, we witness the inequalities wrought by a Conservative coalition in the forms of a National Health Service under constant threat, steep housing inflation and the most vulnerable people in our local communities being made to pay for the actions of a few wreckless people at the top. We also see small business fighting a losing battle against the huge multi-nationals, taking profits out of the Borough and away from local people, and damaging the community.

Our General Election candidates, Maureen Childs (Poplar and Limehouse) and Alistair Polson (Bethnal Green and Bow) are determined to provide a voice to the people and businesses of Tower Hamlets who share our vision to create an inclusive, prosperous, safe area for people to lead productive, well connected lives.

To do this, we need to raise money for our election campaign. This money will go directly to help us stand our candidates and ensuring our vision for a fairer future is delivered to every constituent in Tower Hamlets. By building a Green voice in Tower Hamlets, we can capitalise on the current Green surge and work towards Green success in our historical Borough in the future.

In short, the money will be spent on:

  • Deposits for Bethnal Green and Bow and Poplar and Limehouse
  • Money for printing freepost leaflets which will go to every household in each constituency
  • Other publications to provide a local message to residents

Along with our national priorities of saving and rebuilding the National Health Service and reversing cuts affecting the most vulnerable members of our society, these are our policies for Tower Hamlets:

  1. We will continue to fight to protect our GP services
  2. We will fight to protect the funding for our hospitals, The Royal London, Mile End, London Chest and Barts, which are all suffering increased waiting times
  3. The bedroom tax has impacted severely and we will continue to ensure our Council evicts no one as a consequence of it
  4. We want the minimum wage to be a decent living wage of £10 an hour by 2020
  5. We will publicise dangerous levels of pollution in our air: this is London’s silent killer
  6. Child poverty is increasing in Tower Hamlets and we will make employers pay wages which you can build a life on
  7. We oppose the Silvertown Tunnel which promised nothing but congestion and more pollution for Tower Hamlets
  8. We want a dramatic increase in public house building, rent control for the private rented sector, land tax for the wealthy, support for housing action trusts, cooperatives and much more say for tenants in Housing Associations
  9. In order to reduce harm to individuals and the community, we want to vastly increase the assistance available to drug users
