Malcolm and I found each other a little later in life and starting a family has so far for us, been full of problems. We have been trying to conceive for over 2 years now and we have had miscarriages along the way.
There is no treatment available to us on the NHS as I am aged 40. Despite the guidelines stating that women up to the age of 42 should have 1 cycle of IVF, our local PCT has set their maximum age to 39. It is something of a postcode lottery.
We have been referred to the Royal Cornwall Hospital by our GP and had some basic tests carried out but there seems to be no explanation as to why it's not happening for us or even why I can't seem to carry them to full term but either way we are now on our own. We are saving, but it takes a long time to raise £5300 and as I get older, our chances of success half every year.
Which is why I am appealing to our friends to try and help us to make this happen before it's too late. Malcolm and I are saving for a round of IVF which we would like to start in spring 2016. We are researching different clinics to find out where we can get our best chance but the cost to have this done through our local hospital in Truro is £5300.
If each one of our Facebook friends donated £10 then that would reach our target, but obviously not everyone will donate, this is just an example of how a relatively small donation can really make a big difference.
I wanted to anticipate any questions or comments which we might encounter so I would say that should we conceive during the crowdfunding period and it be a successful pregnancy, then we would like to donate the funds to another couple who are going through a similar process and make someone else's dreams come true.
I am sure that I will get questions about why we aren't adopting? .... We are trying! We are investigating adoption in the South West but have been advised that this also is a 2 year application process and there is a wait of up to 5 years or more for a baby.
Please can you help us?
