To buy medical kit with equipment such as defibrillators enabling a new initiative of city based First Responders to attend cardiac arrests

by Steve Grint in Norwich, England, United Kingdom

New stretch target

£1,300 buys equipment for one kit whilst we currently have four volunteers in training. Although it is possible to pass the kit around the volunteers it does restrict the time and availability to book on duty reducing cover at critical times

Our goal is to raise enough money to fund the equipment the new volunteers require and allow maximum coverage day and night

Community First Responders (CFR's) are everyday people who volunteer to go through basic emergency medical training then support the ambulance service in their home communities at times when excessive demand or crew locations may delay arrival times

The training covers situations where the patient is either potentially or actually in a life threatening condition, such as cardiac arrest, stroke, seizure, severe asthma, anaphylactic shock, etc. CFR's are supplied with equipment such as defibrillators to help save lives as the chances of surviving a heart attack is greatly increased by early treatment

Traditionally CFR's have been based in remote locations where an ambulance would need to travel a distance to, this new initiative is aiming to recruit urban responders based in or around cities designed to ensure patients can quickly receive critical care even at peak times

Each CFR requires a kit bag and equipment which costs around £1,300 each. Although kit can be shared between responders this greatly reduces cover, our goal is to supply each new responder with their own kit and maximise on duty times
