We are 56 Degrees North - a creative studio project aiming to provide artists, makers and craftspeople with flexible, affordable studio spaces. We are renting some rooms in Berwick-upon-Tweed, a remote town in Northumberland, and want to develop into a much-needed creative 'hub' - somewhere to get advice on creative businesses & practice, to hold workshops, exhibitions and events, to run groups to bring artistic practice to the community, and eventually to provide artists and makers with the use of specialist equipment (such as screenprinting facilities or a darkroom). We are run by a committee of like-minded creatives from different artistic disciplines, all passionate about art and creating, and all struggling to follow their dreams whilst painting and sewing on their kitchen tables! We want to bring artists not only suitable space and facilities to create in, but a supportive creative community - so we can help and encourage each other while we attempt to make a living doing what we love!
Your donations will be spent on basic equipment - table and chairs while we fill our studio with artists; funding free groups for the community, bringing art and crafts to everyone in Berwick; and funding small exhibitions, to help new local artists get their work seen!
If you live in or visit the North East of England or the Scottish Borders, please find us on Facebook (56 Degrees North - Creative Studios) so you know what exciting events we are putting on!
A pledge of £5 will get you a big thank-you on our Facebook page and a lovely hand-printed thankyou card from our resident printmaker. Here are some of the other rewards you will get if you support our project:
A set of beautiful stationery, five cards or postcards made by our artists - handmade lino-cuts, original photographs and art prints, and a selection of stickers to enhance your stationery.
A beautiful hand-made printed linen tea-towel of either "Oystercatcher" or "Berwick Salmon" design.
A delicate and magical lino-print of a toadstool, glazed and framed. Different colourways available.
Little foxes: a hand-embroidered picture of a sweet little fox or a bold red Mexican fox in a matt-black frame.
A beautiful high-quality giclée print of a local scene by our resident artist:
Our props maker will donate two life-size custom-made prop weapons and a custom-made life-size prop helmet from a range of options.
And finally, a beautiful original, mixed-media work by our artist, Sarah D'Agrosa.
With huge thanks from the 56° North team and our two helpers!
