People of colour have been hard hit by covid19 & trauma. We would like to provide bursaries for our annual event to create a healing space.

In the last year we have witnessed a global movement of racial equality, including Black Lives Matter; as well as a health pandemic of an unprecedented level. Many of the injustices faced by communities of people of colour have been highlighted and raised to peoples' awareness. This message is about the work that the 'Mindfulness Network for People of Colour' (MNPC) is doing to create learning and healing opportunities. And for those who wish to engage in making a more just world for marginalised groups through supporting mindfulness programs.

We are implementing online global programs to reach out to people who would like to engage in 'POC meditative spaces', including people who have suffered because of their colour or sexual orientation or have suffered a catalogue of injustices and trauma. Identity trauma can be the result of racism, abandonment, violence and a range of experiences which leave individuals disenfranchised, alienated and 'stuck'. In turn, this affects society at large, and hence the solutions must be addressed at a more collective level.

At MNPC, we believe in creating positive roles models and opportunities for people of colour. We value the work of black communities and engage in models where we pay for their contribution and help to build their skills and improve communities. At MNPC, we are committed to equality, diversity and inclusion in mindfulness-based teaching, by making transformational education widely available.

Addressing inequalities through mindfulness workshops and retreats is at the forefront of our work. Included above is a recent 'Youtube' overview of our last online people of colour global retreat in June 2020.  MNPC was the first organisation in the world to host a full weekend POC global retreat.  Some 25 contributors from around the world gave their time and energy to a highly successful retreat in which 60 participants were representing over 12 countries in 3 different time zones.  We want to repeat this unique learning experience in July 2021.

We think it is essential that MNPC continue this work, and are raising funds to pay for:

1. Bursaries for the annual retreat for people of colour. We have created a solidarity economy in our programs which consist of three different paying options for participants - to enable those who can pay more to do so and, importantly, to offer free spaces for those who are not able to pay. This will benefit all the London boroughs as the event will be online. And will enable us to continue our face-to-face events in Putney in the months to come.

2. While we have been fortunate to have volunteers who have given their time free of charge, this cannot continue indefinitely. We need to be able to recruit and pay our admin team - who bring a wealth of wisdom and collective sharing and learning - and move away from volunteer roles. This summer our group of 9 people will be working collectively for three months with no or little pay during a time of a global pandemic. They are putting others first to lay foundations for mindfulness-based interventions for people of colour communities.

3. Monthly 'Breathe Space'. This will subsidise our monthly Heart Circle POC group and pay the fees of our presenters.

We want to thank you for your donations and have created a few rewards which are open to anyone to encourage donations.

The time with everyone over the weekend on retreat has been incredible and undoubtedly I am, as likely so is everyone else, left with many things to process which will play-out over days/weeks/years to come

It is so important that there are spaces where People of Colour are centred in this society which is so entrenched in racism
