To design, produce and unveil a plaque commemorating the 88 men of the 1st Battalion, Essex Regiment killed at Gueudecourt, France at the Battle of the Somme on October 12th 1916. The mayor of the village is having a Garden of Remembrance created where the Essex plaque will be placed. The Essex Regiment might be called the 'forgotten regiment' and to redress this in some small way the 1st/Essex Gueudecourt Memorial Plaque Appeal is intended to honour and remember those 88 brave men.
