Wellbeing Wigan Community Interest Company is a not-for-profit organisation registered in England & Wales: Company Number 11324998. Our vision is to provide holistic health and wellbeing services for everyone - we want to break down the barriers to accessing these vital services by making them affordable and accessible to all.
We opened our holistic wellbeing centre on Gidlow Lane in Wigan, Greater Manchester in July 2018, and now offer affordable complementary therapies and holistic treatments such as Reiki, Crystal Healing, Access Bars©, Metamorphic Technique and run regular classes such as meditation and yoga plus lots more in our Zen Den.
We've created a lovely, welcoming community cafe that's part of the Chatty Cafe scheme aimed at tackling loneliness and isolation. with regular groups run by and for local people such as Wild Women's Book Club, Knit & Natter, Mums Utd, Spiritual Development Circle and Mindful Storytime for Children with lots more in the pipeline.
We run regular community social events to bring people together, to meet, make friends and share interests e.g. supper clubs, live music, craft fairs, wellbeing retreats, craft sessions. There is so much more we can/want to do and that our community is desperate for us to offer but we need money for our day-to-day running costs to enable us to do this.
We've also established an amazing network of local affiliates who provide services like counselling, sports therapy, breathworks, guitar lessons, baby & child first aid classes, nutrition advice, aesthetic clinics, art therapy, vision board workshops and more. Our Zen Den and Community Cafe are available for private hire for meetings, functions etc. We offer catering, entertainment and a temporary bar licence if needed.
Austerity policies have put communities and the organisations working within them under huge pressure. Funding sources that would make a major difference such as the Big Lottery are simply not available to us due to restrictive eligibility criteria. In the last 12 months, we successfully bid for local authority funding via The Deal but this was a very small amount (less than £4000) to deliver two specific projects. They're fantastic projects providing holistic wellbeing services to women who've experienced domestic violence and to 18-25 year old care-leavers but we can't continue to run these or our other services without funding to do so.
Research has shown that peer-run self-help groups are beneficial for those of us with poor mental health issues, which can result in decreased hospitalisation, larger social support networks and enhanced self-esteem and social functioning. This is an area we would like to develop a lot further and we have a lot of interest but again, we need money to be able to do this.
Workplace wellbeing is a key area we want to expand - we have already got a contract to deliver staff wellbeing sessions for a large, international comapny in the area. We know there is a demand for such services to comply with policies and legislation but that there is also a gap in available provision. We want to develop our Wellbeing Works programme and secure more contracts as soon as possible because this could be a valuable income-stream that could subsidise our services. However, we simply don't have the time to follow up on this due to day-to-day running of our current services.
So far, we've relied on the help of our family, friends and community and volunteers have enabled us to keep going through our first year but we desperately need to employ staff to manage the services we've already set up, then we will have the time to expand and develop our services to enable us to build a sustainable future.
Any donations made to this Crowdfunder will be used for staff and running costs - no profit is made from any of the work we do. Please support us, we can't do it without you!!
