Our house is an 1884 Victorian Semi-Detached which has not been looked after or maintained as it should have been.
It was literally love at first sight. We could see past the questionable decor and previously added ugly extension which has been added in a very unsympathetic manner to the original build and has created a higgledy piggledy interior layout.
We weren't however expecting the 47 page survey that followed.
On seeking advice prior to completion we were reassured not to worry as nothing major waa required so we went ahead and completed 21.2.19.
Oh wow, 'nothing major' really???
Woodchip hides a multitude of sins! There's no wonder it was on every single ceiling and wall of the house ????????♀️
The main pitched roof and flat extension have been leaking for years, both need fully stripping and replacing and the joists checking
The dining chimney breast has been removed without support being added.
The beautiful original sash windows have not been looked after and the front door has been neglected for that long it is jammed shut.
The damp levels are reading at over 5 times the recommended figures which also means origianl floors have to be lifted to assess the damage to joists.
The original roof needs replacing, flat roof to the extension needs replacing and the chimney needs re-building.
Add to that a full re-wire and boiker modernisation etc to highlight just the pertinent points.
This is a small insight to the task we have at hand of which far exceeds our initial expectations.
