My name’s Hannah, I’m the Artistic Director of On The Run and I'm here to tell you a bit more about our Crowdfunder campaign and why we need your help.
But first, I want to say thank you for being here and reading our story - it really means a lot!
We’re a Lecoq-trained theatre company who have performed our work since 2014. Our first show, So It Goes, was an autobiographical show about my Dad, who died when I was seventeen. It premiered at the Edinburgh fringe in 2014 where it received wide critical acclaim (including a 5* review from The Times), a sell-out run and went on to tour internationally as part of the British Council Showcase 2015.
Our new show ‘The Rebirth of Meadow Rain’ explores theme of emotional abuse and coercive control, something often misunderstood or difficult to define. As a company, we are passionate about making work that deals with issues in society that are difficult to talk about. Our aim is to create an open and honest dialogue with the audience through comedy and storytelling. Meadow Rain is no different, and we’ve teamed up with UK SAYS NO MORE, a campaign to change the societal narrative towards domestic abuse, in order to help spread the change further.
How your money will help
Taking our show to the Edinburgh Fringe is fundamental for our show, firstly to reach new and diverse audiences, but also to reconnect with known audiences and venues across the UK. The Edinburgh Fringe is a rich platform for the future touring around the UK and internationally.
Not only will your money help the company’s development immensely, but it will also help change the public understanding of domestic abuse to something that encapsulates non-violent abusive acts as a central and fundamental part of an abusive relationship.
What will the money go towards?
The show’s been developing for two years and we’ve managed to cover the cost of making the show so far. We've had the good news (in the last 24 hours!), that we can will cover some of the budget with an Arts Council grant. BUT Edinburgh is incredibly expensive, and we still need your help to kickstart the final phase of the show’s development!
Our fundraising campaign today aims to raise £1500 towards the cost of Edinburgh. This money equates to around 1/7 of the full budget and will go towards:
- marketing and press
- venue fees
- travel expenses
- Props and set
We’ve got some fabulous perks available for you, as a small but heartfelt THANK YOU for your contribution. Some examples of perks below*:
- A thank you post on social media
- A personalised video thank you from meadow Rain
- special content (videos, images, even a trailer…) if we meet targets
- A free ticket to a preview in London or Edinburgh
