Joe is the new boy at men's crisis hotline, 'Safe Space'. His first day promises to be something he'll never forget. Ever.

'Safe Space' is a (fictional) crisis phoneline for men. Men of all ages and backgrounds work there, answering calls from other men, who just need someone to listen.

The short film follows new boy Joe on his first shift.

He will never forget it.

*****

Mental health is an issue close to my heart but it's also a big deal within the greater community, having been overlooked for so long.

Male mental health is even less talked about, even though steps are being taken to resolve this.

I chose to write 'Safe Space' as someone who has been in a situation where calling the Samaritans was my only option. It was such a helpful experience for me, and more people should be aware of how helpful it can be. Unlike Safe Space, the Samaritans isn't designed exclusively for men or women - it is for everyone - but there exists an idea that men shy away from calling phonelines like this, because it's not 'manly'. Rubbish. If you need help, you need help; it doesn't matter who you are.

Everyone needs to talk!

WHY AM I ASKING FOR MONEY:

Actors, writers, crew ... It is expected that creative people will give up their time for free in return for 'exposure'. Sadly, exposure doesn't pay the bills (I mean, imagine asking a plumber to fix your leak and, in payment, you'd share a photo of their work on the Internet. I mean, come on). I'd like to give *something* to everyone involved with my film, from the crew down to the actors.

Any remaining money will be going to the Samaritans.
