My name is Zinzi, I was raised in London. I grew up in and around South London, especially Brixton.
Let's call Brixton the frontline of gentrification.
Where I went to school the average house is £500,000.
I am an artist.
I am homeless.
Statististics show that as a queer woman, in London from a working class background who is black I am royally screwed and the government couldn't give a royal f*%k about me.
As a Milenial, I have done everything I was supposed to. I went to uni, twice, good ones, and was always a top student. I work hard- and have nothing. Ahhh Meritocracy.
I have been homeless every year since I was 15. I am 29.
So I had this idea, it is part idea, part protest, part social choreography to see if I can raise enough money via crowdfund to buy a house. Well we crowdfund for everything else and we need new economies.
I seems ridiculous I know, but so does waiting the goverment to make decesion that won't lead to my extincition.
If I get the money-I will buy a house. Hopefully other people will do the same.
It will be interesting to see what actually happens.
Also I will throw a house warming party- it will be cray!
So the deal is, everyone who donates will own the house, it will be like a co-op. I'll have a life tenacy, and when I'm dead someone else get's in. Seems well far fetcheted but it's no more far fetched then any other social housing. Then if lot's of people follow suit, it will be the Milenial co-op or something. And if I don't raise enough for a house in London I'll make some sort of community centre or somink.
Sweet, we've go 8 weeks mate!
