Update 17th May
Very many thanks to everyone who has so generously contributed. It really helps us to mount the strongest campaign possible in these elections.
Following extensive discussion and consideration of the situation in York Central constituency through two members meetings we have decided to withdraw the Green candidate nomination in order to play our part in securing progressive MPs in Parliament.
We know this will disappoint some of our supporters (and please others), but we feel that in the local circumstances this is the right course of action this time to minimise the risk of contributing towards victory for a Conservative candidate. We will use this action to highlight the need for a proportional voting system, as used in more progressive institutions such as the Scottish and Welsh Parliaments, the London Assembly etc and many other countries.
Andy D’Agorne said “We will still be actively involved in debating the issues such as the crisis in our health and social care, local threats to health and environment such as traffic pollution, fracking and the damaging consequences of this government’s policies. Increasing our council seats from 4 to 6 will make us far more effective as a force for change within York, working where we can in partnership with other parties, businesses and community organisations.”
Update 4th May
A big thank you to everyone who has already donated so generously. We now have another by-election in York on 8th June, in Hull Road ward where the Green Party's John Cossham came within 200 votes of winning a seat in 2015. John is standing again this time around and we will be actively campaigning to bridge the gap and make it two additional Green councillors for York. However, this does mean more expense on leaflets to promote John. If you haven't already donated please consider supporting our campaign.
York Green Party will be campaigning strongly York Outer constituency for the General Election and the Micklegate and Hull Road council by-elections on June 8th. We want York to have representatives committed to sustainable environmental policies, a fairer economy and an alternative to the extreme Brexit and far-right agenda threatened by the Tories. We have excellent candidates but we need funds to run an effective campaign and make real gains across York. In particular we need donations to:
- Deliver a leaflet to all households across York Outer.
- Deliver targeted leaflets in support of our campaigns to elect Green Party candidate Rosie Baker in Micklegate and John Cossham in Hull Road.
We have a positive vision for the future of this country, a greener, fairer society and a tolerant, outward looking Britain. With your help, we can make sure that York gets the progressive representatives it deserves.
Notes: All donations go to York Green Party. If you pledge £500 or over you must be willing to provide your contact details and address. By making a donation you confirm that you are eligible to make political donations in the UK, and that this donation is not made for or on behalf of any other person. All donations received are subject to the regulations of the Political Parties, Elections and Referendums Act 2000.
