What is SOS KIT AID?
SOS Kit Aid exists because sport changes lives.
Our mission is to recycle rugby kit for the benefit of young people around the world, so they are given a sporting chance. We make a positive and tangible impact on children’s lives by giving them the opportunity to participate in sporting activities, promoting social inclusion, and protecting the environment.
Our vision is to give all children access to sport, and in doing so, reduce the volume of sports kit in landfill sites.
We collect unwanted new and used rugby kit from schools, clubs, manufacturers and individuals. This kit is sorted into sets and shipped to the rugby federations in less wealthy countries around the world in order to support the devlopment of youth rugby. Over 200,000 youngsters in 27 developing countries in Eastern Europe, Africa, South America and the South Seas have received quality used and new kit, and there are over 40 more countries on the waiting list. We are rapidly approaching our 500th shipment and, in doing this, have saved over 1000 tonnes of environmentally damaging CO2 emissions to date.
SOS Kit Aid has very low overheads as we are staffed entirely by volunteers and receive a good deal of benefit-in-kind from storage and transport companies. But while we receive some financial support from World Rugby, the game's governing body, our biggest challenge is funding the cost of shipment overseas to meet the growing demand for kit.
So we need your help, either with a donation or by funding one or more shipments which typically cost £500 each. You can be rest assured that any contribution will give children a real opportunity to as develop as individuals
