I'm currently trying to raise funds for a dedicated memorial to be located within the local cemetery in dedication to all the former pupils and staff of Western Park Open Air School which was located within the grounds of leicester's largest public park.
Western Park School. You may ask “What’s so special about this school?” well this school was very unique, a mini community where parents and teaching staff worked together to provide the very best education, for all the children who attended this wonderful school. No day was ever the same neither was each pupil's timetable.
A special place where every child was treated the same no matter what their disability; where every achievement was recognised and where life carried on regardless.
On 15th July 2005 Western Park Open Air School closed its doors for the very last time, the end of an era for this unique community
I have been trying to raise funds for a dedicated memorial to be errected at the local cemetery in memory of all those former pupils & staff that once attended this special school between 1930 and 2005. But have been unsuccessful.
I need to raise around £5,000 this would fund the lease of a Granite Plaque or Memorial Bench or Tree for no less then 10 years with a dedication Plaque attached.
My name is Glynn Finney and i'm the official historian and a former pupil of this school.
