Our project involves clearing bracken, brambles, fallen trees and branches; levelling some sites for tent pitches as the ground is steep in places; providing access for disabled and able bodied alike; creating footpaths and creating safety barriers in a few places where it is imperative to do so. We aim to keep the woods and land as natural as possible and let nature continue to run its course whilst allowing access so that it may be enjoyed.
There are fantastic opportunities for nature watching, we have visits from an Otter, Stoat, Lesser Horseshoe Bats, a family of Buzzards, numerous small birds such as Nuthatches, Wrens, Woodpeckers, Blue Tits, Great Tits, Coal Tits etc. We do not allow fishing with rod and line, however, you are welcome to try your hand at 'Tickling the Trout'.
We will be building an ablutions block and hides. We will create a few 'set' pitches with a fire pit/basket, log seating etc., but aim to leave visitors to create their own setting in the woods to keep it as natural as possible operating a 'leave no trace' policy.
