I am taking part in a London to Paris cycle ride to help raise funds for three women's charities: Breast Cancer Care, Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust and Ovarian Cancer Action.
These three charities not only research prevention and treatment methods, but also support women and their families who have been affected by cancer.
Both personally and as a nurse I have seen women affected by these cancers. I have seen situations where women have lost their battle and when they have been lucky enough to beat it. The support needed for these women and their families is vital and very precious to them, these three charities work very hard at providing this.
Many women are scared or do not understand the importance of attending for screening or know the signs and symptoms of these types of cancer. Despite all the successful campaigns and research that has already made positive changes, further research is needed and resources to help reduce the numbers of those affected and increase awareness.
So please, help me raise £1000 to help towards funding their fantastic services.
Breast Cancer Care is there for everyone affected by breast cancer. They bring people together, provide information and support, and campaign for improved standards of care. Visit www.breastcancercare.org.uk for further information. (Charity number: 1017658SC038104)
Jo's cervical Cancer Trust is the UK's only charity dedicated to women, their families and friends affected by cervical abnormalities and cervical cancer. They ensure that women never feel alone at any stage of their journey by providing easily accessed information and support 24 hours a day. Cervical cancer is largely preventable thanks to cervical screening and HPV vaccination, yet there is a major concern at the numbers of women not taking up these potentially life saving opportunities. Visit www.jostrust.org.uk for more information. (Charity number: 1133542/SC041236)
Ovarian Cancer Action is the leading ovarian cancer charity in the UK. They are dedicated to improving women's chances of surviving ovarian cancer by raising awareness of the disease and its symptoms; funding research at the Ovarian Cancer Action Research Centre and other research facilities in the UK; and giving a voice to women affected by the disease. Visit www.ovarian.org.uk for more information. (Charity number: 1109743/SC043478)
Women V Cancer is a charity established under the Charities Aid Foundation. (Charity number 268369)
