MEMORIAL BENCH REPLACEMENT
WE WERE TRYING TO RAISE FUNDS WITH A MINIMUM OF £500 - WE SMASHED THAT IN THE FIRST 60 MINUTES - OUTSTANDING !!
Funds will be used to buy a stronger and longer lasting Memorial Bench for our good friend Grant that will be damage proof and weather proof. Some may remember that the regiment kindly paid for the first bench which sadly has become damaged.
THE BENCH THE LIGHT DRAGOONS PURCHASED
It is unclear whether the damage was caused through wear and tear, vandalism, or not.... that really does not matter as there were signs that the bench would not have lasted due to the elements anyway. I initially proposed that we all chip in a little bit and tried to raise £500.
THE INITIAL PLEDGE REQUEST
£500 would get grant a more durable bench which would hopefully remain in the cemetary forever, with the amount being well over £1000 now we can look at all options.
APPRECIATION FROM THE FAMILY
On behalf of THE ARMSTRONGS I feel it is of great importance that everyone knows how much this bench will mean to them individually and as a family so they in advance would like to thank you all.
Anything above and beyond or extra funds can be used in other ways, there are a few options.
THE TRAGIC TRUTH
Most will not be aware but roughly 3 years after Grant passed, his mum Pat lost her battle with the same illness, now three years after Jack losing Pat, his other son Dale is now battling the same cancer.
This disease has ravaged the Armstrong family and it is with a heavy heart that I have asked permission to inform you that Dale [Grants Brother] is also involved in a terminal fight and we don't know how long he has left - this could be an option if people were happy for the overspill to go there, considering Grant cannot help his big brother from upstairs.
SCOTTYS LITTLE SOLDIERS
The other option is that any extra monies be immediately donated to Scotty's Little Soldiers Charity who help Jessica with bureavement support to help her grow up without her daddy.
WHEN WILL THE FUNDS BE RELEASED FOR USE
Nobody could forecast such an overwhelming response to this in one day, to be fair. Therefore I set this crowdfunding to run for 8 weeks to give people who would want to support it time before the pledge window closed.
Therefore we have 8 weeks before these funds can be accessed - which I think is a positive [to ensure the funds are spent in a completely responsible way]. If anyone has any ideas feel free to contact me as a point of contact.
