SWHP, for over the last 40 years, has rescued, rehabilitated and re-homed hundreds of horses and ponies from South Wales who have been neglected and abused similar to Lara (picture) who was signed over to us this year after being left weith her companion to starve in a field with no food or running water. We are a small charity run by a dedicated team with some amazing volunteers, however we survive on donations with no funding from the govermnent or lottery.
To unable us to rescue more horses and ponies we ensure all the horses who come into SWHP are educated to become either riding or driving ponies or happy companions where we can match them to adopters. All horses taken in by SWHP remain in our ownership ensuring they never endure the misery again that they once endured.
Winter is a very difficult time for us, as not only do we have existing equines to feed but it is our most busy time of the year for us as it is the season we have the highest number of reported neglect cases. Due to the general state of the horse market in the UK, with more and more horses being abandoned and neglected, we have a higher number of horses to take through the winter, currently over 70 here at Coxstone.
We are desperate for help towards our feed and bedding bill which we estimate to be at least £10,000 and any help would be greatly appreciated, however small.
